From the Tomb to the Dawn
Holy Saturday was silent. The tomb was sealed. For the disciples, the world had ended. Their teacher, their hope, was gone. They walked to the grave not with expectation, but with the heavy machinery of grief: spices to mask the odor of death.
But Easter Sunday is the great interruption.
When the women arrived at dawn, they found the stone rolled away. The angel did not say, “See the place where they laid Him to mourn.” He said, “See the place where they laid Him to rise.”
Christ’s resurrection is not merely a happy ending to a sad story. It is the rupture of our reality. It is God’s definitive answer to the despair of Friday. In the Resurrection, sin loses its wage (death) and suffering loses its final word.
Often, we live like the disciples on Holy Saturday. We carry our “spices”—our regrets, our fears, our cynicism—believing that our mistakes are permanent graves. We look for a living God in the dead places of our past.
But the angel’s question is for us today: Why do you seek the living among the dead?
Easter commands us to stop staring at the tomb. The Cross is empty. The grave clothes are folded. Jesus is alive.
The Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Risen King,
Roll away the stone from my heart. Forgive me for living as if Easter did not happen. Help me to stop searching for You in the ashes of yesterday, and to meet You in the light of this new dawn. You are not a memory; You are a living presence. Give me the courage to leave the tomb behind and walk in the newness of Your life today.
Amen.
A Final Thought: The Resurrection isn’t just a historical fact to believe; it is a present reality to inhabit. Because He lives, your story isn’t over. Alleluia!
